NASB | Exodus 19:22 "Also let the priests who come near to the LORD consecrate themselves, or else the LORD will break out against them." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Exodus 19:22 "Also have the priests who approach the LORD consecrate (sanctify, set apart) themselves [for My sacred purpose], or else the LORD will break forth [in judgment] against them [and destroy them]." |
Bible Question: When Moses was about to ascend Mount Sinai, God told him: "And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them." (Ex. 19:22) Yet, God did not tell Moses that his brother Aaron and his family would become priests until later. (See Ex. 28:1) So who were the "priests" who were mentioned at Sinai before the giving of the Ten Commandments? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Arnold, "Also let the priests who come near to the LORD consecrate themselves, lest the LORD break out against them." Exodus 19:22 [English Standard Version] And here is a bit of explanation on this verse.. "19:22 priests. See also v.24. Before the Aaronic priesthood was established (see 28:1), priestly functions were performed either by the elders (see note on 3:16; see also 3:18; 12:21; 18:12) or by designated younger men (see 24:5). But perhaps the verse anticipates the regulations for the Aaronic priests who will be appointed. .."
