Bible Question: Does it tell us in the bible that God can change our heart? If so, where? |
Bible Answer: Greetings oregonraindrops God tells us about the spiritual human heart. "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9) From this we learn that we cannot change our own heart. Can God change our heart? The Psalmist could pray: "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10) It would appear that David believed God could change him. Paul writes: "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" (2 Cor. 5:17) I believe this includes our spiritual heart. It certainly refers to our changed focus of love and our desires which are new in Christ. In fact it is only through this change that we are able to approach God and to please him. I believe when we are "born from above" by the Spirit of God that he changes us at the time we place faith in Christ and continues to change us througout our lives to be more like him.
