Bible Question: Please comment of the implications of this command to "pray for the peace of Jersualem"? Is this different from praying for world peace? Are they related? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Momma... The only kind of peace that matters to the slightest degree is peace with God (Romans 5:1). This peace only comes through Jesus Christ resulting from reconciliation with our God, a kind of peace that the world knows nothing about (John 14:27). Consequently, when we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, I think it ought to be evangelical in nature. In the same way, as we pray for peace in the world, we know that the sword will never depart from it until God intervenes (Matthew 24:6). To pray for peace in a worldly sense, therefore, is to pray contrary to what Christ actually said! However, we can and ought to pray for the salvation of a lost world, always being ready to offer a reasoned explanation (apologetic) for our faith. In so doing, we become (Matthew 5:9). In Him, Doc PS I'm taking the day off from work. It is nice to be on the forum in the middle of the day! :-) I trust that you and yours are well. |
