Bible Question (short): Does this verse fit last half of chap.

Question (full): Can anyone explain how this fits in with the rest of this chapter. I see the division between 17 and 18 where Job is changing focus and trying to qoute them. But this verse does not fit in with 18 to 24 in that case. The only reading I can come up with is that he is asking to prove if what he is quoting them as saying is false, and then his speeches are worthless. That does not seem to make sense to me.
