Bible Question:
Our pastor said in a recent sermon that Saddam Hussein was rebuilding Babylon and has been for the last 23 years. He said this is in fulfillment of prophecy. Can anyone tell me what prophecy this is supposedly fulfilling? Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this statement? Thank you and bless you. Beensetfree |
Bible Answer: Greetings BeenSetFree! According to John F. Walvoord's "Every Prophecy of the Bible", (pg. 614), Revelation 18:11-17 describes a scene that could possibly take place in the future, since the events spoken of take place "in one hour" (v.17). Here is a bit of the commentary... "There is no correspondence of the scene here with what happened to Babylon in the Old Testament, and this gives further basis for belief that this is a future situation where Babylon is rebuilt and then brought to ruin in connection with the events related to the second coming of Christ." "The prophecy is specific that life and events will come to a total stop in the ancient city of Babylon due to a sudden destruction that comes in one day. As this has never been fulfilled, it lends credence to the concept that Babylon will be rebuilt in the end time and then suffer this destruction at the time of the Second Coming." That is the view that is given from that specific source. Blessings to you, Makarios |
