Bible Question: My question about hebrews is from the chapter 12verse 22,23 cant they be explained |
Bible Answer: The author is merely making a comparision to help us understand what it means to come before the Living God. The Bible principle of "first the natural, then the spiritual" means that what takes place in the natural helps us to understand what takes place spritually. The Old Testament is full of objects and occurences that were mere shadows of the substance that was to come. In this instance the author of Hebrews draws our attention to the spectacle that was created when the Living God came down on Mt. Sinai to meet with Moses, his immediate assistants and seventy elders. There was really thick smoke and fire and the ground trembled etc. Look it up in Exodus 19:17-21, 20:18-21, 24:9-18. It was a frightening scene and those people who saw it probably afraid enough to lose control of their bowels! If this is what happens when God Almighty visits earth, how much more is there to fear when we visit the judgement seat in heaven?!? The author of Hebrews is challenging us to get a right perspective on who and what it is we are dealing with in this thing called Christianity. It's not a game, it is a lifestyle that starts by getting in right relationship with God and making right decisions of faith. The Bible is clear that one day everyone will give and account to God for what we have done with our lives. |
