Bible Question: Is the land promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and mentioned all through Genesis, Exodus, and in other books of the Bible the same land the jews occupy today--Israel? When did they take possession of it, and how do we know for sure that this is the "Promised Land" spoken of in the Bible? Someone asked me the other day why we should support the Israelis as opposed to the Palestinians in this war and I wanted to say because this land was given to them by God. But I didn't feel confident enough about how to answer the further questions that were sure to come. Can anybody help me? Thanks! |
Bible Answer: Hebrews 11:9 Says By faith he (Abraham) lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise. I know it is a difficult question to answer amidst the problems in the middle east. But as a Christian you have to realize that all of the Old Testament promises and Laws were pointing to Jesus Christ. Matthew 5:17 says "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the PROPHETS; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill." When Israel gained statehood in 1948, prophecy had been fulfilled. Also read Ephesians 2:11-15. It talks about the differences between jews of Israel and gentiles and why Christ came to redeem us. This may help you understand a little. But overall the situation with muslims and jews and christians will always be complex and tense...which is why we ought to be ready for Christs return. |
