Bible Question (short): women be silent? - 1 Cor 14 |
Question (full): Our pastor resigned last night. I was at a meeting to discuss what we need to do next and the suggestion to have a men's meeting this Saturday came up. The only woman in the room suggested a "men's" meeting will upset a lot of women in the church. Someone brought up 1 Cor 14:34-35 as a basis for having this men's meeting. 34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. 35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Others said this scripture was being taken out of context. Does this scripture support the men of the church assembling to make decisions? |
