Bible Question: What is the Bible about |
Bible Answer: Hi, New... The Bible is the progressive self-revelation of God to His covenant people in redemptive history. In other words, it is God revealing Himself to His own, through specific circumstances and events that took place at a particular period in time. It explains how God will ultimately bring great glory to Himself by redeeming fallen men, creating a perfect, spotless bride for His Son, and restoring creation to its originally intended form. The Bible is the very Words of God. It "is the only sufficient, certain, and infallible" means by which men can know "of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience" to God. See 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Isaiah 8:20; Luke 16:29, 31; Ephesians 2:20; Romans 1:19-21; Romans 2:14,15; Psalms 19:1-3; Hebrews 1:1; Proverbs 22:19-21; Romans 15:4; 2 Peter 1:19-20. By the Bible we mean the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. I hope I haven't confused you. I have a great desire to be precise. Recently, though, I've been told that I'm usually a lot less understandable than I wish to be. In Him, Doc |
