Bible Note: Hi Martha, I appreciate your response to my question. I agree with you that from Acts 2:6 the apostles were speaking languages of surrounding areas that could be understood by the unsaved people. I believe the purpose for this is well supported in the following verse: 1Cr 14:22 So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe. I think someone who receives a gift of tongues now may find they have the ability to learn foreign languages easily and spread the gospel to other nationalities of people.
