Subject: Are tongues a world language or not? |
Bible Note: "over fourteen foreigners representing many nations" 14 foreigners doesn't matter. It's the number of nations that's the question. In vv. 9-11 is where it says how many areas were represented and yes, there were more than 12. But what if each of them talked in more than one foreign tongue? I tend to agree with Aspiring: the Scripture seems to point to the apostles themselves in 2:1 because it says, "...he was numbered with the eleven apostles. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, THEY were all..." (1:26-2:1) (emphasis added). There were no chapters or verses, or even the same punctuations we have now, in the Hebrew, so we need to very carefully read all the context. It takes a lot of time but I'm sure you agree. Hope that helps. J. P. |
