Bible Question:
I am being drawn into a seasons where I'm thirsting after the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit. I want to know and understand as much as I possibly can. The odd thing is that I don't recognize any of the Spirits gifts per se in my own life. i have been saved for 11 years and i know God is with me, as He speaks with me via His word and has been such a source of life and strength. I wait for the day I will speak in tongues or have a gift that is recognizable to build myself and others up. I'd like to hear know learn anything at all about other born-again, bible-believing christians' experiences / understanding of the Holy Spirit and His gifts. In Christ, AOL |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Rom 12:3-8; 1 Cor 12:1-31; Eph 4:11-13; 1 Pet 4:10-11 ... Notice that the list of spiritual gifts are not the same. They are God's gifts and He assigns us one or more gifts. No one has all the gifts and no gift is given to all. The "least important" gifts are the most honored gifts and we need each other. The gift(s) that one has doesn't make them more spiritual. If you want to find out what gift(s) you have take a spiritual inventory. Go to more than one of these sites. Also, ask a friend what they think. http://www.jesuslight.org/Gifts/index.asp http://www.churchgrowth.org/cgi-cg/gifts.cgi http://www.calvarychurch.ca/neatstuff/spiritualGifts/ http://www.elca.org/eteam/assessment/OpenSpiritGifts.htm Searcher PS You said, "I wait for the day I will speak in tongues or have a gift that is recognizable to build myself and others up." God says, "One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church" (1 Cor 14:4). So if God gives you the gify of speaking in another known tongue, it will never build up the church or you, only edify you. |
