Bible Question:
in 1 cor 15:29Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? 30And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? what is this baptism for the dead? |
Bible Answer: Paul here is asking the Corinthians this question: If Jesus was not resurrected, but was still dead, then why are so many being baptized in His name(v.29)? And why do so many suffer persecution, some even unto death, for a dead man(v.30) The KJV and the NKJV both end v.29 with,"...baptized for THE DEAD" instead of,"...baptized for THEM"[all emphasis mine], because the "dead" that Paul is refering to is Jesus, not a group of people. One can not be baptized for the dead, as the Mormons believe. They have based a large portion of their religion on this one verse. But I digress. I hope that clears things up for you. 2nd samuel 22:36-37 |
