Subject: evidence being filled with holy spirit |
Bible Note: First, I don't agree with all the doctrinal statements of the church I attend ... or any church. But, I am not leaving because of soe minor issues. You ask ... Are some spiritual gifts no longer given? If so, how do you biblically defend that? 1 Cor 13:8-10 says two gifts - prophecy (12:10) and knowledge (12:8) will disappear when perfection come ... tongues will be stilled without a cause. Tongues are for unbelivers (14:22) - the Jewish unbelivers (14:21, Isa 28:11,12) ... study tongues in the OT - what do you see? You said "when Jesus returns, we won't need the gift of tongues or any other special gifts, and all will be perfect for those who will reside in heaven." I pointed a contradiction above. You ask ... How do you explain the MANY accounts in Acts where the receiving of the Holy Spirit, and the initial evidence of tongues, is directly and indirectly mentioned? ... let us look in Acts ... only TWO accounts where there is the initial evidence of tongues -2:41 ... 3,000 saved. The 120 spoke in known languages (2:6 ff) -2:27 ... many daily -4:4 ... 5,000 saved -8:14-17 ... Samaritans -8:34-39 ... Ethopian -9:5-19 ... Paul (tho he spoke in tongues later (1 Cor 13:1)) *10:44-48 Cornelius and his house ... they did speak in tongues ... they were Gentiles, showing the Jews, they could become Christains -16:14-15 ... Lydia -16:31-34 ... jailer and his house *19:5-7 ... about 12 disciples of John ... they did speak in tongues. ... linking John who preached before Christ to Him - There are more accounts during Paul's trips. You said, "salvation and the baptism in the Holy Spirit are two seperate and distinct things" By one Spirit we all have been baptized (1 Cor 12:13) -- past tense. It happened when we were saved. In 10:13 says that we were all baptized into one body no matter who we are -- Jew, Greek, bond, or free. There are no Christians who are out of the body. One question how is "the evidence of tongues not being the same as the gift of tongues"?? |
