Subject: Ques. for Grace andTruth |
Bible Note: Grace and Truth: If you don't know whether believers in the "faith only doctrine" [as you describe it] use the book of James -- and obviously you don't -- then at least be intellectually honest and admit that you don't know! Be it known to you that the Southern Baptist Church, of which I am a member, believes and accepts ALL Scripture as being God-breathed! -- albeit we may not refer to the book of James or any other specific book or passage of the Bible quite as frequently as those of your camp refer to Mark 16:16 or Acts 2:38..... Furthermore, regarding prayer, are you actually calling the prayer of a penitent sinner a man-made doctrine? What is prayer? Is it not a communication with God? Tell me, therefore, what the criminal on the cross was doing when he said to the Lord Jesus Christ, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your Kingdom." [Luke 23:42] Did Jesus hear his prayer? Did He answer it? [v.43]. So to you the prayer of a sinner is a man-made doctrine? I suppose it belongs in the trash can along with instrumental music in worship and all those other "man-made doctrines" that don't fit into the scheme devised and promulgated by the Churches of Christ who, of course are the only true believers on the face of the earth, and who proclaim most emphatically and most surely that they really don't have any creeds! --Hank |
