Bible Question:
On John8-31"Then said Pilate unto them, "Take ye him and judge him according to your law." The Jews therefore said unto him, "It is not lawful for us to put any man to death," But on Acts 7, 57Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, 58and cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man whose name was Saul. 59And they stoned Stephen as he called upon God and said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!" My qustion is that, they have said that it is not lawful for them to put a man to death, but they killed Stephen. Why. Can you explain me why they said that, it is not lawful for Jesus but killed stephen? |
Bible Answer: Yowege, The trial of Jesus took place during a Sabbath, the stoning of Stephen was (most likely) not during a Sabbath. That may be only part of the scenerio but it's what comes to mind. This was in accord with Lev. 24:14. However, they were required to get the Romans approval (it's doubtful they did) and may have given him "a mock trial." God's speed. InGodITrust |
