Bible Question: Can someone explain to me in John 2. When Jesus ran the people from the temple that was selling. Why did he do that and what where they doing wrong. ANd where else in scripture support your answer, thanks |
Bible Answer: The temple (tabernacle in the O.T.) is a place of Holiness. God had the children of Israel to build Him a temple, which is where the ark of the Covenant was kept. The ark of the Covenant was a typical figure of the presence of God. The temple was built so that God could dwell among His people (Exodus 25:8). God is Holy and nothing unholy can even come near Him. Jesus says in Matthew 21:13, "It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." The purpose of the temple (for us, church) is to praise and worship God, and His "house must be reverenced. In this dispensation, the Grace dispensation, our bodies are also the temples of God. We know that sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2), so that's why we have to die daily, repent, fast, and pray to keep ourselves worthy of the presence of God (Holy Ghost, anointing). God will not dwell in anyplace unworthy or unclean. 1 Corinthians 6:19; Romans 12:1 WalkingTalkingBible |
