Subject: Bible to be taken literally? |
Bible Note: Greetings CDBJ! You make an excellent point. There is much confusion about what the term 'literal' means. I always try to teach that 'literal' simply means 'taken in the way it was intended by the author'. So, if the passage is a poem, one should read it as a poem. If a passage is an historical narrative, one should read it as an historical narrative, ect.... In this way, one can say that one takes the Bible literally, but still understand that there are differents genres of literature present in Scripture. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
