I am not coming against you today but against the house with which I am at war, and God has ordered me to hurry. AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Chronicles 35:21 But Neco sent messengers to Josiah, saying, "What business do we have with each other, O King of Judah? I am not coming against you today, but against the house with which I am at war, and God has ordered me to hurry. Stop for your own sake from interfering with God who is with me, so that He will not destroy you." |
Subject: Biblical contradiction? |
Bible Note: Thanks- This answer had occured to me but I rejected it on the grounds of the Sovereignty of God. Isa.55:11 teaches us that God's Word, once He has spoken it, will not return to Him void but will accomplish the purpose for which He sent it out. If we accept that God's word didn't come to pass because of Josiah's arrogance then we come to the conclusion that the outcome of the word of almighty God depends on man. I don't think that The Bible teaches that at all. Josiah was the king and as such he led his people into battle, a battle in which he was killed. So again I ask: how did he die in peace (the language used suggests that Josiah would have a peaceful death) as The Lord states when speaking through the prophetess? |
