Bible Question: I don't understand the entire book of Jonah especially the last part. Why did Jonah want to die? Then God asked Jonah if he has the right to be angry? Then the Lord provided a vine to shelter him but then took it away? Then God asked Jonah again if he has the right to be angry about the vine? The the Lord goes on telling Jonah that Nineveh has 120,000 people that cannot tell their right hand from their left. Should I not be concerned about them? Why does he say that? |
Bible Answer: God's day to you, eascusa, Just within the context, when God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared (3:10), Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry (4:1) and reminded God he fled to Tarshish (xref 1:3), because he knew what God could do (4:2) ... so he asked to die (4:3). Then He wasnted to die (4:8), after the plant God made to cover Jonah (4:6), He also caused to wither (4:7). We are told anymore, except for Jonah's lack of pity on Nineveh (v 10-11). Searcher |
