NASB | 1 Chronicles 4:10 Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, "Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!" And God granted him what he requested. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Chronicles 4:10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, saying, "Oh that You would indeed bless me and enlarge my border [property], and that Your hand would be with me, and You would keep me from evil so that it does not hurt me!" And God granted his request. |
Bible Question: Is the prayer of Jabez in 1 Chronicles 4:10 special in some manner? Is it unique in the Bible, or are there other prayers much like it? --Hank |
Bible Answer: Hank, one of the best pray-ers in the Bible was King David, "the man after God's own heart." I have just finished reading 1 Chronicles, which contains that one-verse "Prayer of Jabez." In my opinion, while it was a sincere prayer, in terms of Biblical elaboration, it pales in comparison to David's prayer of praise to the Almighty in 1 Chronicles 29:10-19, after the preparations for the temple have been made. I recommend that everyone take a look at that passage and see everything that David ascribes to our great God! --Joe! |
