Bible Note: Hi Searcher, Thank you for the Scriptures that are "just in". John 4:20-24 have been difficult verses for my particular Bible Study. And the Luke 4:8-10 verses are ones that I had not been comparing John 4 with in the past. Thanks again. There have been many times in my life when I have been sent to my knees and to the floor as the only place for me to be talking with my God. He is great and greatly to be praised! I don't know of any Scripture that would indicate that we should think of Him as our Friend, but I know that we are His friends and we have some knowledge of what He is doing. John 15:14,15 I am glad that He chose me as a friend and I can and should talk with Him continually. So I can't always be on my knees when talking to Him. Just in... Exodus 20 gives the Ten Commandments and verse 3 says, "You shall have no other gods before (Me)." It goes on and tells what they should not worship. They should not worship any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath. Jesus came to earth in the likeness of men. So when Jesus was worshiped on the earth, He was worshiped as Spirit. That is the way that He must be worshiped. That is why I think of Jesus as the Prophet and One who is more than a Prophet. John 4:19, "The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a *(Prophet). Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you [people] say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship." So the woman at the well was aware of who should be worshiped and she had an idea of where Jesus thought that men ought to worship. But she was wrong was she not? Jesus said to her that an hour is coming when people worship in Spirit and truth. He had told her that she worshiped that which she did not know. That is the way I see it: The woman said that He is a Prophet; and you [people], that is, "You [Jesus] say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship." John 4:23, "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in *Spirit and truth; for such people the Father *also seeks to be His worshipers." The word "also" is in the Greek. It is also translated "indeed". But the idea is there that Jesus knows that God is Spirit and those who worship Him must indeed worship in Spirit and truth. Luke 4:12, "And Jesus answered and said to him, "It is said, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'" And when the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. And (Jesus) returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit; and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district. And He began teaching in their synagogues and was praised [or, glorified] by all." John 17:1, "These things Jesus spoke; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He/ said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify Thy (Son), that the Son may glorify Thee." John 17:5, "And now, glorify (Me) together with Thyself, Father, with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was." Praise God! May Jesus be glorified along with the Father. What power there is in the Spirit. Good night, Searcher. From the heart, Ray |
