AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Chronicles 20:3 He brought out the people who were in it, and put them [to work] with saws, iron picks, and axes. David dealt in this way with all the Ammonite cities. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem. |
Bible Question:
Can anyone who has both the NASB updated and the ESV versions say which they like best and why? I have seen parts of the ESV and I have the NASB updated and I can't see very much difference. Any thoughts? justme |
Bible Answer: Justme I used the NASB for years and the NASB Updated when it came out for personal study. However I found that when trying to read aloud from either of the NASBs, because of sentence structure, I often would get tongue tied. Therefore when the ESV was announced I was very excited. To me it flowed and I could read aloud from it better. I also like how the were able to retain much of the beauty of expression and poetry. However they do something I greatly dislike. In verses that are in question as to their authenticity they removed them. Example Acts 8:37 I don't care for that! I think the verse should be included and a notation made in the margin or footnote to address the issue, but to me eliminating them is the wrong thing to do. I have settled on the NKJV which I find to be very literal and sentence structure flows in such a way it is very easy to read aloud from. I now use the ESV only for comparative research. I'm in the process of eliminating the NASB, because of the stance Lockman has taken with some issues on this forum. Any new purchases will be NKJV or the NLT. I find the NLT to be very useful almost like a brief commentary of the Bible it is written so clearly. EdB |
