Bible Question: What does the verse To spare the rof is to spoil the child mean! or rather where is it. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Genny! I don't believe that exact quote is found in the Bible, but several like it are found in Proverbs. They are: 1) Prov. 13:24 - "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes." 2) Prov. 22:15 - "Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him." 3) Prov. 23:13 - "Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. 14Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell." 4) Prov. 29:15 - "The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame." 'Rod' here can refer to a literal rod or to discipline in general. Either way, the main point is simply that a lack of discipline in a child's life will result in a 'bad' child.
