Subject: One qadosh or two for "Holy One"? |
Bible Note: Hi, brother Tim... Traditionally Jews spell this "kodesh." Thus, they will refer to the shem-ha kodesh (holy name). When they want to emphasize the word they will say kodesh kodesh, for example when they speak of the temple. I believe in scripture this is usually translated as "most holy." From my exposure to Jews I understand that repeating an adjective is a way of increasing its significance in whatever context you are speaking -- somewhat similar to the way we use "really" or "very." Thus, in Isaiah 6 when God is spoken of as kodesh kodesh kodesh, it is the ultimate expression of very, very, very holy! Of course, I don't have the ancient Hebrew education that you do. Mine is only picked up by osmosis. :-) Besides that, I may be completely off topic here. :-) In Him, Doc |
