Bible Question:
I know that earlier on it was prophesied that all of Ahabs descendants would die completely... (You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all the LORD's servants shed by Jezebel. 8 The whole house of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel—slave or free. 9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah) but why did it have to happen like this. (Know then, that not a word the LORD has spoken against the house of Ahab will fail. The LORD has done what he promised through his servant Elijah." 11 So Jehu killed everyone in Jezreel who remained of the house of Ahab, as well as all his chief men, his close friends and his priests, leaving him no survivor.) why did God have the anointed king Jehu order that this whole descendant line of the old king DIE. why couldn't there have been a natural disaster or something so that we would know for sure that it could only have been from the Lord. I guess i am really questioning if this part was truly prophesied by God or not. Dont get me wrong I know that all scripture is God breathed and holy, but isn't it common that people mistake the voice of the Lord? Why did God have to use the king to kill all of those people? I just thought it was kind of sick how he asked for seventy human heads to be chopped off. Who would have to do that, and wouldn't they be scared emotionally? I dont know, i guess that has do do with the culture as well. what do y'all think? |
Bible Answer: Well, if you look back, most of the trouble started in 1 Kings 21 when Ahab wanted the land of Naboth. Naboth was killed and the Lord was angered by this. He sent Elijah to Ahab, wo was still on Naboth's land. Elijah spoke "I have found you," he answered, "because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD." (1 Kings 21:20) Ahab killed Naboth in cold blood, and so his punishment was the same. His descendants were also killed. I believe that the seventy heads were used as proof that it had been done to show Jehu it was finished. Also, if you look back on Elijah's prophecy, he said that "Dogs will eat those belonging to Ahab who die in the city, and the birds of the air will feed on those who die in the country." 1Kings 21:24 So bringing them to the gate and leaving them would have fulfilled this. If you look throughout thw bible, you will see that these were cruel times. They stoned people, cut their heads off and killed whole tribes. These acts were commonplace, and probably weren't seen as horrific as they sound today. God is vengeful and He does punish those that anger Him. He didn't always use natural disasters to get things done; he often used regular people. Since Jehu was in power, he was in a place to have Ahab's descendants executed. I hope that helped. |
