Subject: God is not the author of evil. |
Bible Note: John Reformed - "Nothing can happen that He (God) does not cause to happen." Is that your position? ---- If it is, answer me this: Some 14 years ago my son was killed in an automobile accident involving a drunk driver. Did God CAUSE the driver to get drunk? (Surely he did if nothing can happen that He does not cause to happen). ....... Did He CAUSE the drunk driver to get behind the wheel of an automobile? (Surely He did if nothing can happen that He does not cause to happen). ....... Did He CAUSE the drunk driver to cross the freeeway median and slam head-on into another car coming in the opposite direction? (Surely He did if nothing can happen that He does not cause to happen). .......Did God CAUSE my son and two other people to perish in that crash? (Surely He did if nothing can happen that He does not cause to happen). ....... Show me Scripture that teaches any such thing as this. Do you not make any distrinction between CAUSE and PERMIT? Did God CAUSE Adam and Eve to sin? (Surely He did if nothing happens that He does not cause to happen). Or could it be true that He gave them a CHOICE to obey Him or disobey Him? ....... And in like manner, man today has a choice to obey or disobey: Does he or does he not? ..... In your theology, is a man a free more agent or is a puppet? If he is not a free moral agent and if he is not a puppet, then tell me what he is. .......If a man has no choice, he is a puppet and God the puppeteer, or do you have a better explanation? ....... But if God sovereignly elected to give man certain choices, how does this make God any less sovereign? I maintain it does not make Him any less sovereign if He elects to make man a free moral agent, free to obey Him or disobey Him. ........ I post this in spite of my resolve not to engage you in debate, John, (I know how you love it!) but I find it hard to resist letting some of your doctrine go by without challenging it. ....... There are two reasons why I cannot endorse your statement that "Nothing can happen that He does not cause to happen." The first is that Scripture doesn't teach it. The second is that it honestly makes no sense. --Hank |
