Bible Question: i don't understand the whole kingdoms in israel/judah thing? can you expain? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... 1 Sam 9:1-2, 11:8, 17:52, 18:16; 2 Sam 2:10, 3:10, 12:8; 1 Kin 1:35, 11:1-13, 26-40, 12:14-16 ... Neil, greetings. EdB gave a good answer ... it was the final division. The division is seen earlier; Ish-bosheth, ruled Israel for two years (2 Sam 2:10). Then David ruled both for 38 (2 Sam 3:10). There is an apparent difference even earlier (1 Sam 11:8, 17:52, 18:16). God even made the distinction before the division (2 Sam 12:8, 1 Kin 1:35). There were fightings between Israel and Judah in 1 Samuel 19. The final division began in 1 Kings 11:11-13, when God told Solomon what He was going to do. The reason was is he had followed other gods (vv 4-10). He was warned not to intermarry (vs 2) ... the people forsaken Him and worshiped other gods (vs 31). In verses 29-39, Ahijah tore a new cloak and said that Jeroboam would rule the ten tribes. This was fulfilled in 1 Kings 12:15, where the reason was he didn't listen to the people ... he was going to make it worse for them (vs 14). Hope this helps, Searcher |
