Bible Question:
Hi y'all. I've been reading the NLV (I think) from the beginning. I have a bunch of questions, but this one is the most concerning/shocking to me. In Exodus 2:12 Moses kills a dude for abusing the workers he is trying to lead out of Egypt. WHAT??? How is this holy? How is this a good example? How is this justified/justifiable? Does God sanction this? Suggest it? It's like this little tiny 'oh, by the way' kind of passage and I was shocked. I know the God of the OT is 'rougher' than the NT God. Or I think I know that. But still. What am I to learn from this passage?????? Thanks in advance-- Zilla |
Bible Answer: Shalom Zilla First of all, note that the call to Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt had not yet come. That doesn't excuse Moses, but be advised that he did not do this act under the guidance of God. It was not sanctioned or justified by God, just forgiven. The God of the older covenant is no different from the God of the renewed covenant - it's just a different administration of the same covenant Yedida |
