Bible Question:
Will you please give me the Biblical reference for Abraham telling Isaac that he would be the sacrifice? I cannot find it anywhere in Genesis 22. Furthermore, if the only way we can tell whether something is truly from God is whether or not it is ethical, if God does command for murder, then how can we know what is true? What is there to stop Osama Bin Laden from saying that he was correct in the Sept. 11th event if God could also command Moses to kill the men, women, and children in the kingdoms of Heshbon and Og on God's command (Deut. 3:6). According to Bin Laden, Americans are also leading very sinful lives. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Rats Feet, Abraham did not specifically tell Isaac in Scripture that he would be the offering. However, I believe that I can safely assume that Isaac put two and two together when he was laying bound on the altar and his father was standing over him with a knife in his hand. The way that we know that something is truly from God is if the 'something' is in line with God's Holy word. In Acts 17:11, the Bible speaks of the Bereans searching the Scriptures to see if everything that Paul and Silas said was the truth. I believe that this is how that we, as Christians, will know that something is truly from God. As for Osama Bin Laden, he killed and seeks to kill out of hatred. God wipes people out only due to the judgment that they well deserve. Osama Bin Laden is just a human being, and therefore, has absolutely no authority to kill anyone. God, on the other hand, does have the authority to pronounce judgment and execute that judgment upon anyone He so chooses. God only is the judge. Blessings to you, Makarios |
