Bible Question: If the only way we can test whether someone or something is of Christ is by testing his actions against the Bible, then surely God commanding Abraham to kill Isaac is "ungodly"? If a rather person came to tell you that God had told him to tell you to kill your child, surely you would not believe he was "of God"? How can God sanction the murder of innocent people? People can argue that God really didn't mean for Abraham to kill Isaac, yet obviously Abraham killing Isaac would have been the right thing to do, so there is no difference. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Rats Feet, When God told Abraham to go and sacrifice Isaac to Him in Genesis 22, He was testing Abraham's faith, to see if he could sacrifice his only son to the Lord, even though He was promised that His descendants would scatter the earth and he loved his son so dearly and close to his heart. God does not sanction or support the murder of innocent people. In the example of Abraham and Isaac, we see somewhat of a parallel in the fact that God did not withhold even His own Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, from crucixion and death, even death on a cross, so that we humans would have a way to be saved.
