Bible Question:
How do people believe that this verse "allows" us to eat meat? Some translations of the Bible differ greatly about this particular passage. We are not beasts. Where does the Bible "ok" us to eat meat? Genesis 1:30 (NIV) - And TO ALL THE BEASTS of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground-everything that has the breath of life in it-I give every green plant for food." |
Bible Answer: Geneis 1:30 was a Pre-flood verse. At that time every living thing was vegitarian. It appears that all creation was vegetarian until after the waters of the Great Flood receded and Noah and his family were left to replenish the earth. Genesis 9:1-3 says: "Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall upon all of the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, now I give you everything." (1 Tim 4:1-4 KJV) "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:" |
