Bible Question:
In Genesis Chapt 1 verses 27-28 it says 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. T Then in Genesis chapt2 verses 21-23 it says So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs [9] and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib [10] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, [11] ' for she was taken out of man." My question is, was Eve the first Woman, and if not what happened to the first female that was originally there with Adam. Appearantly she did not go into the Garden of Eden with him. Help I am confused by this protion of scripture... |
Bible Answer: Winfieldd -- Yes, Eve was the first woman and Adam the first man, the first and only two human beings that God ever created according to the Genesis record: we have no evidence that He created any other human beings. The rest of the human race are descendents from Adam and Eve, born of their seed and not created in the sense that Adam and Eve were. Your confusion obviously stems from your assuming that Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 are describing two accounts of creation, but they are not. The second account is merely an expansion of the first. One God, one creation. Many posts are in the forum archives on this topic and may be accessed by using Search and the key words _creation account_ --Hank |
