Bible Question:
This is off-topic, but one of your statements brings up an interesting question that I have had. You wrote: "Adam and Eve are the only two humans EVER to be created." My question is, Do you consider the conception of our Lord Jesus in the womb of Mary to be another instance of the creation of a human. God the Son was pre-existent of course, but His "earthly tent" wasn't. I myself lean toward the idea that God supernaturally created a new human zygote "ex nihilo", which would make him the Second Adam in a very real sense. It would also deal with the question of how Christ in his humanity would have no "original sin," since he would not be the genetic descendent of Mary (if, indeed, the physical body plays any role in the transmission of the curse at all). Just idle speculation, of course. What do you think? --Joe! |
Bible Answer: Hello, Joe! No, I do not consider Jesus to be another "created" human being. Not in the same sense in which Adam was created. Of course, Jesus was miraculously "conceived" by the Holy Spirit. But he grew in the womb and was born by natural processes. It seems there is a great difference in Jesus being born and Adam being formed out of "the dust of the ground" (see Genesis 2:7). With Adam it was now you don't see him, now you do. But in the case of the baby Jesus it was now you don't see him, nine months later you do. With Adam God breathed into him the breath of life and he evidently appeared instantaneously. Jesus was conceived in the womb of a woman and did not appear (was not born) until nine months had elapsed. I have no formal training in theology, so I don't claim that my answer is the definitive answer. Thanks, Joe, for a good and legitimate question. As you said, it is a bit off-topic -- not that there's anything wrong with that. I just hope your question does not 'create' confusion where the original question re cloning is concerned.
