Bible Question: I have been searching at least 10 years for a serious answer to this question from Genesis 9:3,4: "Why do we Christians not take seriously the above passage in light of its' context but mostly seem able to accept vs.5,6 as applicable for today. In the age of mad cow disease and it's cause, should we not revisit the implications if God was serious about this as He gave us this meat to enjoy as food? I was told by Meat Inspection in the state I resided in at thet time that "Christians eat anything!" I was told that by law, the only ones who could specify how their meat was slaughtered were the Jews and the Muslims. Prior to the Age of refrigeration,I was told, animals were bled to prevent spoilage, but refrigeration removed that concern and "Animal Rights Groups" who saw the old way of slaughter as inhumane lobbied and won legislation to change the way meat was slaughtered. I love meat, but hate going to the meat counter because the meat is even packaged in its' blood! Thanks for your answer in advance. |
Bible Answer: minjackson: You ask a good question: "Why do we Christians not take seriously the above passage [Genesis 9:3,4]?" My short answer: [Gentile] Christians generally do not take seriously the Tanakh (OT) or the Torah (The Five Books of Moses, the Pentateuch) or the Mosaic Law. So the question could just as easily be: Why do Christians not take seriously the Torah? ******************** For sin will not have authority over you; because you are not under legalism but under grace. [] For the goal at which the Torah aims is the Messiah, who offers righteousness to everyone who trusts. Romans 6:14; 10:4 (CJB) Matthew 5:17-19 (ESV) "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. [18] For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. [19] Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. --kalos |
