Bible Question (short): Christian Voting? |
Question (full): Christian Voting The question of Christian voting came up in another thread. At least one person expressed the question that we are not of this world so why should we vote? I wanted to point out the differences between our representative government and the most kingdoms (dictatorships) that we see in scripture. We are given a measure of ruler-ship (self rule) in the United States. Do we just throw that ruler-ship responsibility away? What if Joseph had thrown away his ruler-ship (Gen 47; Acts 7:10): Gen 47 6The land of Egypt is before you. Have your father and brothers dwell in the best of the land; let them dwell in the land of Goshen. And if you know any competent men among them, then make them chief herdsmen over my livestock." 20Then Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. So the land became Pharaoh's. 21And as for the people, he moved them into the cities,[1] from one end of the borders of Egypt to the other end. First of all I wish to ask the question; aren’t we Ambassadors for Christ? 2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. Also, we are “salt” and “light”, so I wonder what this scripture means to a person that thinks that he does not need to vote: Mat 5 13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. How does this reasoning affect how we rule our own households or churches? What can we say to our children that reject God in their lives? 1 Corinthians 6:3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life? Any comments? |
