Bible Question (short): Part 2...Temple Prostitutes? |
Question (full): Part 2....Temple Prostitutes.... And it was not just one tribe but several tribes that played a prominent role in the corruption……were prostitutes employed by temples throughout? HOS 5:5 Israel's arrogance testifies against them; the Israelites, even Ephraim, stumble in their sin; Judah also stumbles with them. 13 "When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his sores, then Ephraim turned to Assyria, and sent to the great king for help. But he is not able to cure you, not able to heal your sores. 14 For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, like a great lion to Judah. I will tear them to pieces and go away; I will carry them off, with no one to rescue them. HOS 6:7 Like Adam, they have broken the covenant-- they were unfaithful to me there. 8:11 "Though Ephraim built many altars for sin offerings, these have become altars for sinning. 13:1 When Ephraim spoke, men trembled; he was exalted in Israel. But he became guilty of Baal worship and died. Yet the Lord is compassionate…(c.700 bc.)….. 2 CHR 30:18 Although most of the many people who came from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar and Zebulun had not purified themselves, yet they ate the Passover, contrary to what was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, "May the LORD, who is good, pardon everyone 19 who sets his heart on seeking God--the LORD, the God of his fathers--even if he is not clean according to the rules of the sanctuary." 20 And the LORD heard Hezekiah and healed the people. And again in Jeremiah (7-6 century bc.) JER 31:20 “Is not Ephraim my dear son….. …..I have great compassion for him," declares the LORD. May I conclude from the evidence that God's people did indeed employ and utilize temple or shrine prostitutes? There are lessons either way I think. Since this is for study purposes only I am open to new Scriptural based insight and interpretation. God Bless....Jensen |
