Bible Question: Was Onan punished (Gen 38:10) for spilling his seed or for shirking his levirate duties? |
Bible Answer: since the two verses before this verse are about Onan making Tamar pregnant. It says that what Onan did was evil in the sight of the Lord so He took his life also. I think that "also" is referring to his brothers who also did evil in the eyes of the Lord. The most descriptive thing that this chapter says about Onan is that he did not want to make Tamar pregnant because he didn't want to father children that wouldn't be his own. As for other duties, I don't think that the chapter is descriptive enough. Hope this helps Joanna :) |
