Bible Question (short): Why was Onan punished? |
Question (full): Thank you Doc for your response. I know that Onan was not a Levite. "Levirate" refers to the marriage of a man with the widow of his deceased brother, which Onan was instructed to enter into by his dad in Gen 38:8. Now that you know this, would your reply still be the same? It could posssibly be argued that Onan's sin might have been not to consummate the marriage with Thamar by spilling his seed thereby trying to "kill off" the bloodline from which the Saviour was to be born?
