NASB | Genesis 3:17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 3:17 Then to Adam the LORD God said, "Because you have listened [attentively] to the voice of your wife, and have eaten [fruit] from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it'; The ground is [now] under a curse because of you; In sorrow and toil you shall eat [the fruit] of it All the days of your life. |
Bible Question: It would appear that Adam and Eve were not cursed by God following their act of disobedience. Would you agree? And do you think this is significant? |
Bible Answer: Racan, I do not think you can assume that Adam and Eve were not cursed for their disobedience just because God does not use the word "cursed" directly to Adam and Eve. I would certainly feel myself cursed if I had been expelled from the garden of Eden and doomed to die in flesh, having already died spiritually in my relationship with God. Every Covenant has blessing and curses associated with it. Blessing if the terms of Covenant are kept and curses if they are violated. Adam and Eve violated the terms of the Covenant (Gen 2:16) and suffered the consequences (Gen 3). This same pattern is repeated over and over again throughout the Old Tstament and even extends to the New Testament (1 Cor 11:29-30). Emmaus |
