AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 28:18 ¶ So Jacob got up early in the morning, and took the stone he had put under his head and he set it up as a pillar [that is, a monument to the vision in his dream], and he poured [olive] oil on the top of it [to consecrate it]. |
Bible Question:
"And Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone he had put under his head, and he set it up for a pillar (a monument to the vision in his dream), and he poured oil on its top [in dedication]." (Genesis 28:18) This pillar seems to be the rock which is symbolic of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jacob anointed this rock and Jesus is known as the “Anointed One.” This Rock was also “the house of God.” (Genesis 28:22) This was Jacob-Israel’s Rock and Jesus is known as “the Rock of Israel.” (Genesis 49:24) Is this the rock that followed the Israelites during their 40 years in the wilderness, providing them with water? (1 Corinthians 10:4) With over a million Israelites in the wilderness it would appear this rock provided water many more times than just the two instances recorded in scripture. |
Bible Answer: God's day to you, Jim Estes ..................... I think it is a stretch to collarate Jacob's rock with Christ. His vow (vv 22-22) is trying to make a deal with God. Again it is a "spiritual rock" not phyiscal. Be careful how you read a verse ... understand the context. S |
