Bible Question:  I was just reading this thread and found it to be interesting. I noticed you didn't really complete the line of thought you started with this post.

So this line of reasoning begs the question: ARE we indeed our brother's or sister's keeper? I don't really see how we could consider this question from God, Creator of the Universe to be rhetorical. I'll wait for your response and then sumit my opinion. I would humbly suggest Ja 5:13-18 could be included in this discussion. What do you think?

Blessings to you. Country Girl

Bible Answer:  Country Girl
I didn't have any particular line of thought in my response. The person that submitted the question asked about a quote and a possible reference to it. I was merely supplying a possible reference.

As to your question, "Are we indeed our brother's keeper?" (I see no reason to include sister here since that term is already implied both here and in the scripture and I hope our beloved female forum members are secure enough with their gender to accept that)

Now to the question. I think we have a responsibility to preach the gospel and share our testimony. Jesus called us to be His witness Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:18-20.

I also believe we need to keep our brothers in prayer. To offer intercession as we see Paul give the example. Romans 15:30-32; 2 Cor. 1:11; Ephes. 6:19-20; 1 Thes. 5:25; 2 Thes. 3:1; Hebrews 13:18 and as you mentioned in James 5:13-13

However our trust, our faith, our confidence, our dependence, what we rely on, what we look to, where our hope is should not be in our brothers nor theirs in us, but rather all of this should be focused on Christ Jesus.

So while we are to love our neighbor as ourselves and do unto him as we would have done unto us, each of us are responsible for our own relationship with Christ.

In other words each of us must develop and individual relationship with Christ to assure our salvation, hear His voice for our direction and comfort and have confidence in the Friend that sticks closer than a brother.

We have no need of an earthly keeper if we have a heavenly one that is never slack in His keeping.

I hope that answers you question. If not let me know.
