Subject:  Am I my brother's keeper?

Bible Note:  Have you ever inserted the words "one another" into the Word Search to come up with all the associated scriptures on the subject? I just did and there are dozens of such scriptures in the NT alone. It seems the Bible puts a tremendous emphasis on our relationship with our fellow christians here on earth.

As a matter of fact, I believe John put so much emphasis on it, that we can't even hope to go to Heaven unless we're in fellowship with our brethren at least as much as it is possible with our direct input into that fellowship. (1 Jn 1 and 2) So you see, we can't be just satisfied that we have a good vertical relationship with God our Father. We must also strive for a balanced, horizontal relationship with our christian family here on earth.

Yes, I'm very much afraid God does expect a positive answer to his question to Cain. For He does indeed expect us to be our brother's keeper. No, I'm not saying we must be ultimately responsible for our brother's sins UNLESS we are the direct cause, like our drinking alcohol in front of him when we know he has a weakness. But I am saying that God wants us to learn to truly love our fellow man, and most especially our fellow christian enough to check on them now and again. Encourage them, love on them and ocassionally chastise them when they really need it. We should see this relationship like blood brothers of the same earthly father, only better and closer for we all have the same eternal Father. For scriptures, I can only cite the ones already cited before. You probably know them better than I do.

Blessings to you. Country Girl
