AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 22:2 God said, "Take now your son, your only son [of promise], whom you love, Isaac, and go to the region of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you." |
Bible Question: Abraham had more than one son (Ishmael and the sons of Keturah Gen 25:2)yet this verse refers to his ONLY son. What does God want us to understand here? |
Bible Answer: You are right that Abraham had more sons, but God ONLY recognized Isaac. Isaac was Abraham's TRUE son because the promise was made to him and Sarah. Not to him and all those other women. This tells me that when Abraham went and tried to "help" God that he created ENEMIES for his seed. Read the word. Ishmael was one of the most persistant opponents to the Israelites. The promise wasn't for just a son. It was for a son with sarah who had NEVER conceived. |
