Subject: Remember the Sabbath; when? |
Bible Note: Graceful Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath Matt. 12:8, Mark 2:29 and Luke 6:5. He fulfilled the Sabbath. To understand that we have to understand what the Sabbath was. Most confuses the Sabbath with the worship of God. No good Jew would ever consider worshipping God on just one day. The Sabbath was a day of rest. Genesis 2:1-3, Ex 16:23. It was made for man Mark 2:27. It was also a picture of the rest that was yet to come in the form of a Savior. Jesus was the rest giver Shiloh Gen 49:10, we find our rest in Him Hebrews 4:3. Since He provides for our rest Jesus has indeed fulfilled the purpose of the Sabbath. The Christian Sunday is a day of celebration and rejoicing that our Savior has arose. In fact the early Christians (Jews) celebrated both the Sabbath a day of rest and reflection and Sunday a day of worship and celebration. It wasn’t until much later that the church rather than deal with these explanations merely said the Sabbath is now on Sunday and that day you should be in church. That satisfied most as they didn’t read their Bible but knew the 10 commandments. It also helped to fill the churches :-) However our Sunday worship is no more the Sabbath rest than what we do on Monday or Tuesday is. Since Jesus fulfilled the Sabbath and we are not longer required to keep that law Sunday should not be called Sabbath or confused with the Sabbath. Sunday is the day set aside to worship and rejoice that our Savior lives!!! This has been explaned many times by me and others on this forum if anyone cares to read about it or wants more information, do a search on "Sabbath". EdB |
