Bible Question: For the Hebrew buffs out there: Gen1:1-"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." The Hebrew word for heavens is "shamayim," a dual Hebrew word...My question: Why is it translated into English as "heavens" plural, instead of TWO heavens since that is what dual means, TWO? Would it be wrong to say "In the beginning God created TWO heavens and the earth?" |
Bible Answer: Dear Short, I am not a Hebrew buff, but, in case you are interested, there is a Scripture ... In 2 Corinthians 12:2-4, where Paul speaks about the third heaven. I don't know if there are levels of heaven or different heavens or parts of heaven but it is best to stick to Scripture and not speculation, so, here goes: "I knew a man in Christ, above 14 years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one was caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter." I don't know if this is of any help but I just thought you might like to look at this scripture and pray about it. The Lord may give you some better understanding if you read this and the verses around it. -itiswritten |
