81 | The Spirit and the Seventy | John 16:7 | ariel levin | 223325
Thank you, Mr. Moran, for your time and effort. It's much appreciated. Barnes doesn't fully satisfy, but it is a valid view to consider with some interesting points that I hadn't "seen" before. (I'm under the impression due to the circumstances that Moses and the 70 each received the "full measure" of the Spirit and that it lasted, remained within them, until each individual died.) |

82 | The Spirit and the Seventy | Not Specified | ariel levin | 223321
Shalom everyone, I think this is my first question. I've watched this site for a number of years and have not seen this question before. It's one of those dreaded "why" questions...maybe I'll make it a "how come" question. :o) How come Messiah told His disciples that He had to go away for the Holy Spirit to come to them? The Holy Spirit was given in full measure to Moses, and then later to his 70 elders. It was the same Spirit, and the trinitarian doctrine teaches that the Spirit is a distinct personality of the Godhead, so Messiah's being on the earth or not being here should have nothing to do with whether the Spirit indwells or not? I'm just a bit confused over the having to "go away" and the infilling of the 70 along with Moses (and probably Aaron and Miriam too)? Thanks for the help. |

84 | Is James 4:3 completely true? | James 4:3 | ariel levin | 223280
Shalom Azure, You known one possible reason for "unanswered" or "misanswered" prayer that biblenovice asked about is one that I'm sure most believers are guilty of: not waiting on the Lord. Like Abraham, we figure He needs a little human intervention or we jump on the first thing that comes along that fits into our budget assigning that as God's best. When we think we are in desperate need we forget how many times God's prophets urged His people to wait, to be still and to see God's mighty hand at work in our lives. Someone once shared this little gem with me: When God is preparing a work in our lives we can faintly see Him before us. But when He is actively doing a work in us (or for us) it's like He is out of sight, absent, we can only see clearly what He was doing after we have come through the thing. So when He seems the farthest away, that's actually the time that He is the closest. This is the time to be still and wait on the Lord. My 2cents to the mix |

85 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | Matt 5:17 | ariel levin | 223226
Good day Lightedsteps, I was using your own choice of terms "...but the engrafted word, the perfect law of liberty..." when I asked what "word". Since at the time of the apostolic writings there was no New Testament, exactly what commands were being spoken of for believers to obey if not the commands found in the books of Moses? In Ex. 21 (just a continuation of chapter 20) God calls what He spoke in ch 20 mishpatim and tzedaka - judgements and righteousness - whoever first choose to label them "law(s)" I don't know, but to fulfill what you requested: Deut 6:6 (NASB) These words which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart... |

Lightedsteps You said, "why then try to keep the law that Christ has already kept for us" IMO, that is about as silly as trying to convince someone that because my parents paid their taxes perfectly each year of their working lives, I don't have to pay them. If the passages being discussed are no longer relevant, are void and null, then what "commands" and what "word" is being spoken of since the NT had not yet been preserved in one book? And what do we do with Mat. 5:17-19? Mind you, we don't "keep the Law" to be saved, we keep the Law because we ARE saved. It was not given to an unredeemed people. It was given to a people already redeemed to set them apart from the rest of the nations. Are we not grafted into this very olive tree? Or are we supposed to continue to look and act like the "nations" we came out of? I need some clarifiation here. Thank you |

87 | Worst things come upon you! | 1 Cor 6:18 | ariel levin | 223219
Grace, Could you possibly be thinking about Matthewi12:43-45? While these verses are not speaking about marriage, they could apply, I guess? Mat 12:43 "When an unclean spirit comes out of a person, it travels through dry country seeking rest and does not find it. Mat 12:44 Then it says to itself, 'I will return to the house I left.' When it arrives, it finds the house standing empty, swept clean and put in order. Mat 12:45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they come and live there — so that in the end, the person is worse off than he was before. This is how it will be for this wicked generation." |

88 | Can a Christian go to Night Clubs | 2 Cor 6:14 | ariel levin | 222698
As I recall the Gospels, our Master went everywhere that the religious people thought was below them. I think He said something to the effect that He went where He was most needed. Ariel |

89 | communion | Exodus | ariel levin | 222047
Dear Flyguild, I totally forgot to give you the references you asked for: Matthew 26:20-29, Mark 14:12-26 and Luke 22:14-23. |

90 | communion | Exodus | ariel levin | 222046
Dear flyguild, Jesus was in the middle of the Passover Seder. There are 5 cups of wine, each representing something specific from Exodus 6:6-7. 1st cup “I will bring you out” (deliverance) 2nd cup “I will rid you of their bondage” (freedom) 3rd cup “I will redeem you” (redemption) 4th cup “I will take you for my people and I will be your God” (sanctification) 5th cup which is poured between the 2nd and 3rd cups, but not drunk till last, is the Cup for Elijah. The cup that Jesus spoke of was the 3rd cup, and He said, in essence, “from now on, when you observe this Passover, THIS cup is the cup of My blood, do this from now on in remembrance of Me.” No thanks to Constantine and the RCC, Christians have lost the Passover Seder. For anyone who has never observed the commemoration, either Jewish or Messianic, I would encourage you to consider doing so next year, especially if you can find a local Messianic congregation nearby. It will be an experience that will bring it all home to you and you see that regardless of what Judaism is today, when these Seder traditions came into fruition, their hearts were longing for their Messiah. Even though you didn't ask about it, I'll also show you Jesus in the Matza that is eaten. There are 3 pieces of matza, the middle one is taken, wrapped in a napkin and hidden (buried). Later, a child hunts for and finds this middle piece of matza which is then broken into pieces and consumed by all at the table. Sound familiar? Those are just 2 of the places in the Seder where Jesus can be seen, even if you're not looking! |

91 | prayer | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 221950
Dear wejlly, Doc answered correctly, there is no scriptural reference for praying for the dead. Following is the Jewish and Messianic "Mourner's Kaddish" written sometime in the 9th century. Notice that there is actually not one single word said for or about the dead in it - instead, it is a prayer that extolls the greatness and compassion of our God of Israel and our willingness to submit to His will: Exalted and sanctified is God's great name (Amen) in the world which He has created according to His will, and may He establish His kingdom in your lifetime and during your days, and within the life of the entire House of Israel, speedily and soon; and say, Amen. (Amen. May His great name be blessed forever and to all eternity.) May His great Name be blessed forever and for all eternity. Blessed and praised, glorified and exalted, extolled and honored, elevated and lauded be the Name of the Holy One, blessed be He, (blessed be He) beyond all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations that are spoken in the world; and say, Amen. (Amen.) May He who makes peace in the heavens, make peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen. (Amen.) |

Dear Doc, What does it matter if the questioner is JW? Does that preclude him from receiving a correct response? He asked a bonafide question and I'm sure others would be interested in the answer as well. Ariel |
