81 | What did it mean to be "put out"? | John 9:34 | Rolff | 207237
The idea is disowned or treated him as if he were dead. This is a Jewish custom to this day. “and they cast him outside” is as literal as one can get moving between Greek and English. His parents would not side with or against their son because they wanted to be able to be part of the community and Judaism. When the unnamed “blind” man chose sides with Jesus the Jewish community (compare 9:8) threw him out of his religion and community life as if he were dead. The compassion of Jesus is shown in the next paragraph 9:35f where Jesus brings the subject of this narrative into His kingdom and community. |

82 | Who was Cain's wife? | Genesis | Rolff | 207235
God only tells us things we need to know and apparently God didn’t think we needed to know Cain’s wife. Adam and Eve, Adam means man or mankind and all through the Old Testament when you see a man did this or that…the Hebrew word equivelant to Adam. Eve was the mother of all living. Adam and Eve’s job was to have children. They had at least three boys and we assume they had many children. As late as Abraham and Sarah, brothers and sisters were marrying each other (Genesis 20:2, circa 2000 BCE.) It is assumed Cain married one of his sisters. |

83 | what is God telling us in the book of J? | Nah 1:1 | Rolff | 207233
The Book of Jonah is trying to tell us several things. First, a prophet doesn’t have to be anything but willing to do God’s will. Jonah was a melancholy personality that didn’t want the Assyrians [Iraq] to be saved. Jonah was looking forward to the destruction of Assyrians; this is true in Jonah’s first and last behaviors. God moved circumstances to get his servant to obey God’s will. God shows God’s “own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Or in the case of the Assyrians, God saved them out of His goodness. While God changed his mind because of the revival with Jonah as the unwilling evangelist, Nahum is the newspaper 150 years later showing the utter destruction of Nineveh. |

84 | Information needed. | Matt 1:17 | Rolff | 207221
I wondered if this info would add to the mix. The 14x14x14 generations in Matthew are a mnemonic to help generations of people without paper, pen or computer--that needed to know their genealogy. Have you looked at 1 Chronicles 1-9 for a fuller list of begat’s? Abraham is usually dated around 1950 BCE. ISBE gives a date post 2000 BC. This would be 1900 more or less years between Abram and Jesus. |

86 | Nebuchadnezzar's 7 period absence | Dan 4:32 | Rolff | 207017
Interesting question. I am not aware of anywhere it states in scripture who replaced Nebuchadnezzar during this time of insanity. Adam Clark's commentary states the following: Verse 26. "No new king was set up; Evil-merodach his son was regent during his father's insanity." |

88 | Four Missionary Journeys? | 2 Tim 1:1 | Rolff | 206990
The answer to your question will only come by your own study of scripture. I personally, give very little credance (sp) to things not said in scripture. You will need to study this for yourself and make your own opinion on this topic. I stick with my answer, but you are welcome to disagree with me. |

89 | DOUBLE AND TRIPLE NEGATIVES OF NT | Luke 22:18 | Rolff | 206989
Bowler, I spend most of my time in Administration and Christian Education at school. Sometimes I am on top of my Greek, other times not as much so. Second, I find this webpage a real encouagement to my spiritual life. I could have pulled a book off the shelf for the ten thousandth time, but asked a Christain brother and you got the blessing as well as I got my answer. I also learned a new webpage I will add to my links. Luke 22:15f reads in as literal English "And he said to them: With desire I desired this passover to eat with you before the me to suffer, for I tell you that no more by no means I eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. In English we are only allowed one negative per sentence. In Greek, this is not true. They can use as many negatives for emphasis as they desire. Double and triple negatives are one of the more difficult translation difficulties. Here Jesus is telling the disciples he isn't going to eat the communion service until the Kingdom of God. Hebrews 13:5, Without the love of money [the] way of the life being satisfied with the things present hath said, I will never leave the nor forsake thee. Again, Jesus words, or emphasis that he would never leave us under any condition. don www.diduask.com |

92 | Four Missionary Journeys? | 2 Tim 1:1 | Rolff | 206981
Paul had three missionary journeys as we normally think of a missionary. Acts 13:4f begins Missionary Journey 1. Acts 15:40f begins Missionary Journey 2. Acts 18:22f begins third missionary journey. These are documented as missionary journeys. But Paul in Acts 19:21, begins a transition, “Now after these things were finished, Paul purposed in the spirit to go to Jerusalem after he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, saying, "After I have been there, I must also see Rome." Eventually, he is arrested and Roman soldiers take him to Caesar in Rome. Some call this the fourth missionary journey, some indicate he only had three missionary journeys. Hope this settles the confusion. Tumbleweed, I would encourage you to look at the Bible classes at www.goldenstate.edu |

93 | wrong and right to marry the person | Ephesians | Rolff | 206979
There are two answers to the question, “What does the Bible say about who a man should or should-not marry.” First, if you are married, you are married to the right woman. She was smart enough to pick you, enjoy her for life. Second, if you are not married. I would spend a lot of time looking at Solomon's 1000 women and how they brought him from a place God talked to him and gave him his choice of gifts to the place he was worshiping false gods, because of the women he chose to marry/cohabitate. I would spend a lot of time in Proverbs especially King Lemuel’s words in Proverbs 31. Most unmarried men are looking for a beautiful woman with a great shape. Most married men are much more interested in someone that will talk to them, spend time building each other up and enjoying each other as they grow their children together. 2 Corinthians 6:14 “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” Don’t have an unsaved wife or business partner. |

94 | SECOND FABLE IN THE BIBLE | Judg 9:7 | Rolff | 206899
In Judges 9:7-16 Jotham tells a fable to Abimelech. Are there any other fables or myths like Jotham's in Scripture? Seems like I heard there were two but I can't come up with any others. |
