Hi, ucmenew! Here's a hint: In the beginnning was the Word: the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. (John 1:1-2) Another: Yahweh declared to my Lord, 'Take your seat at my right hand, till I have made your enemies your footstool.' (Psalm 110:1) And another: but to the Son he says: Your throne, God, is for ever and ever; and: the sceptre of his kingdom is a sceptre of justice; (Hebrews 1:8) And a final one (this one is a triple header): the Spirit of truth whom the world can never accept since it neither sees nor knows him; but you know him, because he is with you, he is in you. (John 14:17) Jesus replied: anyone who loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him and make a home in him. (John 14:23) We do not determine how God operates or reveals Himself! If God chose to be known as three Divine Persons, why do we concern ourselves with the implications or mysteries of God? We should be concerning ourselves with the revelations He has made, and believe!: So it is not a matter of what any person wants or what any person does, but only of God having mercy. (Romans 9:16) If God reveals Himself as One God (the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit), how can we refuse to believe on the grounds that we do not understand? Do we understand the inner-workings of everything on this world?--but we avail ourselves of that which we want or need! God Bless! Angel |

82 | God orchestrates or allows? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 121924
Hi, eagle eyes! I think that part of the problem is that we take everything to extremes... when we do so we make the Word of God seem lopsided... i.e.: There are those who read the Bible and claim that Jesus cannot be God because Yahweh said, in the Old Testament, that there is only one God. Others look to the verse where Jesus Christ stated that not even the Son of man knew "the hour or the day..."--clearly this, to them, is evidence enough that Jesus cannot be God. Others, still, claim that since God cannot be tempted and Jesus was tempted then it must be that Jesus is not God... What do they miss? They miss Jesus stating that He and the Father are One; that He is the Son of God; that He is the Alpha and the Omega, that He is the Beginning and the End; that He is the Resurrection and the Life; that He is the Good Shepherd... then there are the Father's own words: "Your throne, God, is for ever and ever;" And Thomas' confession: "My Lord and my God!" I could go on with the list... Everything is in God's hands (for He lets the sun shine on both the just and the unjust; He allows the rain to fall on both the good and the bad--paraphrased!)... Does that translate into everyone in the world being puppets whose strings are pulled by God at His whim? God causes all things to happen for the good of those He loves: Jesus died on the cross: the Just for the unjust; the Righteous for the unrighteous... Satan sets death onto the world, God sets Life onto the world--for all to benefit, all who believe and obey that is! When Yahweh said "choose life..." He was offering a choice with a built-in safety... When Jesus said "if you abide in me..." He was offering us that same choice with that same built-in safety: "be holy for I am Holy." We are called to perfection; but, God does not use tricks or strings to control our decisions. As Paul said: 'For me everthing is permissible'; maybe, but not everthing does good. True, for me everything is permissible, but I am determined not to be dominated by anything. (1 Corinthians 6:12) Is Paul saying that because he is living by Grace he can do anything he desires... No! He is saying that in God we are free to choose anything that we want to do or have... But he quickly counters that not everything does good--anything that keeps us from being one with Chirst is not good for our spiritual wellbeing! Though God does not want anybody to die, He will not force-feed us Salvation: But the rest of the human race, who escaped death by these plagues, refused either to abandon their own handiwork or to stop worshipping devils, the idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood that can neither see nor hear nor move. Nor did they give up their murdering, or witchcraft, or fornicating or stealing. (Revelation 9:20-21) but though people were scorched by the fierce heat of it, they cursed the name of God who had the power to cause such plagues, and they would not repent and glorify him. (Revelations 16:9) Surely, God has our best interest at heart (Romans 10:28), but He allows us freedom to choose Him over everything else (John 1:12-13 and Romans 10:16). God Bless! Angel |

84 | what about a Bible study??? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 122541
Hi, Mike! Paul had many things to say... he presented many arguments... they all centered on Jesus! Here's a little tip he left us: Do not stifle the Spirit or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt; test everything and hold on to what is good and shun every form of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22) I recommend the same... whatever your endeavor and however you engage a Bible study: humble yourself to the Holy Spirit, ask Him for guidance, seek the advise of others, test the responses in light of the Holy Scriptures, and confide on our Lord to enlighten your mind and spirit. God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Mike! I am not seeking to complicate the study... it's just that in the past I had a few study partners that would seek to divorse the study material from the rest of the Bible... though I am not a scholar, I do believe that we can only see the total meaning of the Scriptures when viewed in the light of the complete Bible: God does not change and His Word is both eternal and transcendent... we cannot pick and choose but accept Him as He revealed Himself! 89 | Determining when an answer is received | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 122819
Hi, Aba! I've read your question and the responses to it... EdB was right on the money! What is wrong with today's "feel-good-get-what-you-want" movements is that they want to mold Jesus and the Bible to their capricious desires... True, Christ did say that we are to ask and believe that what we asked for will be given to us by God, but He also COMMANDED: 'In your prayers do not babble as the gentiles do, for they think that by using many words they will make themselves heard. Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask him. So you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be held holy, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. (Matthew 6:7-10) "Your will be done" is a forgotten part of many of the cultist propaganda--along with "your Father knows what you need." Our Father sees the complete picture all of the times, we see partially and imperfectly. If we pray as in Luke 11:13, in Jesus, we will surely have more than what we asked. But we have to remember that God is not a cash machine, a miracle-worker (magician for hire), nor a match-maker! God Bless! Angel |

90 | Every nation from Noah's son? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 122861
"I wanted to know "why" they are so special that they are considered His people, and no matter how much they sin and don't believe in Jesus as the Messiah, He will still accept them in the end and the nation of Jews will be saved, no matter what," Hi, ljw9292! True, there is a promise to the Isrealites... True, there is a promise to the Gentiles... Both promises become one in Christ, Paul explains it this way: It is not that God's promise has failed. Not all born Israelites belong to Israel, and not all the descendants of Abraham count as his children, for Isaac is the one through whom your Name will be carried on. Tha is, it is not by being childrend through physical descent that people become children of God; it is the children of the promise that are counted as the heirs. The actual words of the promise were: I shall come back to you at this season, and Sarah will have a son. Even more to the point is what was said to Rebecca when she was pregnant by our ancestor, Isaac, before her children were born, so that neither had yet done anything either good or bad, but in order that it should be God's choice which prevailed--not human merit, but his call--she was told: the elder one will serve the younger. or as scripture says elsewhere: I loved Jacob but hated Esau. (Romans 9:6-13) So you and I are also chosen to be a child of God through Faith in Jesus! Further, Paul says: What follows? Israel failed to find what it was seeking; only those who were chosen found it and the rest had their minds hardened; just as it says in scripture: God has infused them with a spirit of lethargy; until today they have not eyes to see or ears to hear. David too says: May their own table prove a trap for them, a pitfall and a snare; let that be their retribution. May their eyes grow so dim they cannot see, and their backs be bent for ever. (Romans 11:7-10) The guilty will not come unscathed, there is retribution to all, those who are children of Abraham through physical descent and to those who become children of Abraham through Faith in Jesus! But Paul argues further about the children of Israel: What I am saying is this: Was this stumbling to lead to their final downfall? Out of the question! On the contrary, their failure has brought salvation for the gentiles, in order to stir them to envy. And if their fall has proved a great gain to the world, and their loss has proved a great gain to the gentiles--how much greater a gain will come when all is restored to them! Let me say then to you gentiles that, as far as I am an apostle to the gentiles, I take pride in this work of service; and I want it to be the means of rousing to envy the people who are my own blood-relations and so of saving some of them. Since their rejection meant the reconciliation of the world, do you know what their reacceptance will mean? Nothing less than life from the dead! (Romans 11:11-16) So you see, the failure of the Isrealites was not just pure disobedience... God used their rebelion to gather the gentiles to Him. But the promise made to Abraham is perpetual because God is eternal and His Word is His Bond! Does that mean that all of the Jewish people from all times will inherit the promise? No!, for not all born of Israel are children of the Promise (Romans 9:6)... just like not all Gentiles will inherit salvation: just like the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many,' (Matthew 20:28) 'It is not anyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," who will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven. (Matthew 7:21) It is only those who do the Will of God who are saved! And there is a conversion of the Jews: I want you to be quite certain, brothers, of this mystery, to save you from congratulating yourselves on your own good sense: part of Israel had its mind hardened, but only until the gentiles have wholly come in; and this is how all Israel will be saved. As scripture says: From Zion will come the Redeemer, he will remove godlessness from Jacob. And this will be my covenant with them, when i take their sins away. As regards the gospel, they are enemies, but for your sake; but as regards those who are God's choice, they are still well loved for the sake of their ancestors. There is no change of mind on God's part about the gifts he has made or of his choice. Just as you were in the past disobedient to God but now you have been shown mercy, through their disobeience; so in the same way they are disobedient now, so that through the mercy shown to you they too will receive mercy. God has imprisoned all human being in their own disobedience only to show mercy to them all. (Romans 11:25-32) Both the Jews and Gentiles have one Redeemer; thus the two nations become one! (John 10:16 and Ephesians 2:12-22) God Bless! Angel |

91 | Norm, Is the way the same for all ? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 123183
Hi, Searcher56! Though we diverge from the Truth, the Way has to be the same for all: Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me. (John 14:6) My one command to them was this: Listen to my voice, then I will be your God and you shall be my people. In everything, follow the way that I mark out for you, and you shall prosper. (Jeremiah 7:23) Sadly, now a days everybody wants to establish his/her "way," rejecting the Creator and conforming to the creatures! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Searcher! Sorry about my post! I thought, from your query, that you were intending to take the meaning to a spiritual level. Since there are so many teachings about Christ and the Church (some that blatantly contradict Jesus Christ Himself), I thought that the thread was heading into an "all inclusive" fellowship: i.e.: Some try to twist Ephisians 4:4 to mean come as you are (keeping the old life and conforming not to the Lord, but Him to the old life). So, true, rear the child as he/she has talents and abilities... but when it pertains to the Lord: Throw out the old yeast so that you can be the fresh dough, unleavened as you are. For our Passover has been sacrificed, that is, Christ; (1 Corinthians 5:7) God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Mike! One problem that we have today is that we seek instant gratification (fast lives, fast food, fast relationships)... Jesus revealed His relationship with God (beyond our human relationship) at the age of twelve... but He did not rush a single moment. In fact His first miracle was performed at the bequest of His mother (John 2:1-11). Pray to our Lord Jesus Christ, He will lead you to where you are to be... I caution you, do not jump from one place to another (as if taking a cruise in NYC's subway system); Jesus warned that there would come a time when everyone would be claiming to have Him, He warned don't go there! (Matthew 24:23-26) I recomend that you begin by praying (do some fasting if you are accostomed to it), search the Holy Bible, search the Church's history, and put the Holy Scriptures to use: He commanded us to be one with Him as He is One with the Father. That is why He established His Church, to unite us in Him: since as Christ is head of the Church and saves the whole body... (Ephesians 5:23) ...Christ loved the Church and sacrificed himself for her to make her holy. He made her clean by washing her in water with a form of words, so that when he took her to himself she would be glorious, with no speck or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and faultless. (Ephesians 5:25-29) Whatever you do stay in the Faith: Now it is impossible to please God without faith, since anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and rewards those who try to find him. (Hebrews 11:6) Saint James says it this way: If there is any one of you who needs wisdom, he must ask God, who gives to all freely and ungrudgingly; it will be given to him. But he must ask with faith, and no trace of doubt... (James 1:5-6) God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Dadda! Hank spoke the truth! Though since the last decade or so they have been claiming to be "Christians," it is much like the Mormons who introduce themselves as Bible reading Christians but soon side step the Bible to offer their version of doctrine (book of Mormons). Your coworker (if in the cult for a few years) has had extensive indoctrination in: disbelieving the Holy Trinity, the Divinity of Jesus and the Holy Spirit as part of God. She has acquired a tunnel-vision to read and understand only what "they" consider to be the truth. In as much as you attempt to show, through the Bible, the Truth (Jesus the only Name given by which we are all saved) she will attempt to reject every word as wrong interpretation. Even when you offer a simple passage as "I and the Father are One", since they do not believe in the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17, 26; 15:26; 16:7-15), they can not understand that which is of the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:6-16), they can only think of human intelligence and symbolism. Pray so that the Holy Spirit give you strength and wisdom to stay in the Truth: Jesus is God! God Bless! Angel |

97 | entering church with shoes | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 124744
Hi gundalas! Though the responses that were given you were correct, I do not see any problem with your particular practice. We are all called to serve the Lord with humility and love. As the woman at Jesus' feet worshipped Him in a simple and loving fashion, Jesus did not forbid her from doing so! I believe that we have a cultural difference that is not shun by our Lord: in India your custom of removing your shoes before entering the Church demonstrate respect for the Church as a holy place, in other parts of the world they may not; but each will worship the Lord in love and humility, and that unites us in fellowship! God Bless! Angel |

98 | do i have to worship loudly? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 124922
Hi, rjcbp! There are those who persist that we cannot worship God with song or that we cannot play musical instruments during songs, there are still those who claim that Jesus forbade praying in group/public... if we search deep enough or, perhaps more to the point, if we search superficially enough we will find anything we want to see in Scriptures. During the intense persecution of the Apostles, did the Church worship loudly enough to give away their hiding places? If several of the Apostles or disciples gathered a few feet away from perilous situations (near areas frequented by Jews or near synagogues, or in the neighborhoods of the Masters of the Laws, Sadducees, Pharisees and their respcetive falimies and acquaintances) would God reject their worship for being several decibels bellow par? Would it be required that the mute, blind, and deaf, among the believers, be more physically engaging than the rest of the worshippers to compensate for any lack of coordination or volume? And, finally, when we text praises and glories, and when we preach and pray throughout the internet, must we vocalize as we type so that God may hear our prayers, praises, glories, teachings... I'll refer you to 1 Corinthians 12:4-11--it is the Holy Spirit who gives to each of us according to His Will... and 1 Corinthians 12:12-31--the Holy Spirit did not employ a cookie cutter when constructing the Body of Christ! When the Lord calls you to jump or clap or dance or shout that is precisely the moment when you will worship according to His call. One final, final point--God Almighty is ancient, but He is not lacking in skills and abilities: He is not going deaf! So... shout for joy, even if it is only in your heart, or be loud in silent worship for the Temple of God is you! God Bless! Angel |

99 | Purity in concerns with being raped | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 124994
Hi, Patts! The closest Biblical passage that I have found is as follows: But if the man ran into the betrothed girl in the open country and slept with her, having taken her by force, her ravisher alone must die; you must do nothing to the girl, she has not committed a capital offence. The case is like that of a man who attacks and kills his fellow: since he came across her in the open country, the betrothed girl may have called out without anyone's coming to her rescue. (Deuteronomy 22:25-27) This passage clearly places the blame on the person who assaults the victim. The scene, though not relative to our present society (no fear of God and lack of love and compassion), depicts a girl/woman overpowered and assaulted against her will and with no one to protect her. Such a person will never be held accountable, by God, for the actions perpetrated by her attacker. Remember, as long as you do not defile yourself, you are pure in God's eyes! Bring all your concerns and pain to Jesus; He has the power to heal and make you whole: Jesus said: I am the resurrection. Anyone who believes in me, even though that person dies, will live, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die... (John 11:25-26) In Jesus you are Whole and Complete! God Bless! Angel |
