81 | Are christians sinners or not? | Rom 3:23 | mbooker | 69434
Hi Brother John! Long time no see (or in this case post :) )! I pray all is well with you... I understand where you are coming from. I would not go up to an unbeliever and say 'I am not a sinner' for the reasons you outlined. I would not even argue the point with some believers I know. I simply don't think of myself as a hamartolos. I think of myself as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (as a man thinks in his heart, so is he). Now, have I sinned after being born again? YES!! But since learning about 1 John 1:9, I quickly take advantage of His cleansing... :) May you continue to know that He has blessed you with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Meredith |

82 | Is it Sin or Me? | Rom 5:12 | mbooker | 75724
Good Morning Brother Tim! :) Just this morning, I was thinking about Romans 7, particularly vv 15-23, and how to reconcile it with what Paul said in Romans 6, particularly vv 11-14. When you said you believed Romans 7 'describes Paul's condition as a Jew, who wants to obey the Law of God, prior to his becoming a Christian', why do you believe that? Meredith |

84 | Reward? | Rom 6:4 | mbooker | 56709
Thanks Brother Tim! I am an AVID believer in salvation by grace and I am very sensitive when I perceive(hear) that someone is suggesting, even in the slightest, that I have to DO this or DO that for my salvation. The scriptures you sited, I know well... :) and you posting them here only stirs up my faith that it is by grace that I am saved and not of works (oh how I love that!! :) ) Now I'm going back to re-read your post! :) Abba Father Bless you again and again... |

'Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God' John 3:3 the amplified says: 'born again(anew, from above)'. Peter says: 'Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.' I Peter 1:23 That is what I was meaning. Hope I answered your question. Abba Father bless you... :) |

Good morning Brother Tim I wanted to let you know that I am printing out this post and will go thru each scripture and study them. The more that I read these posts in conjunction with the Word, the more I believe 'by grace am I saved through faith and that not of myself. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest I should boast.' Thanks so much for sharing. Abba Father bless you... :) |

91 | Isn't Baptism neccessary for salvation?? | Rom 10:9 | mbooker | 72638
OK Brother Tim!! :) First off, "Hi" Second, since you understand the statement, would you mind explaining it to me. I followed the previous post by Searcher but this one... it's not as clear to me as I'd like it to be... Thanks Meredith |

92 | Isn't Baptism neccessary for salvation?? | Rom 10:9 | mbooker | 72714
Thanks Brother Tim! :) Yes it is clear! I really appreciate you and thank God for you. You so remind me of 2 Tim 2:24 :) and again I thank God for that. May you know that you have been blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ... and may you be not weary in well doing, for in due season you shall reap if you faint not. CDBJ 'All of the Old Testament believers had to have faith in God’s perfect sacrifice the same way that we do today; they looked forward to it and we look back.' I appreciate your post. I was talking to a co-worker Wednesday and she said that she hopes to get to heaven ... IF she 'doesn't mess up too bad' (her exact words). I tried to convey to her that if we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we shall be saved. She believes you have to 'have Jesus' but... it's 'faith and works' (again, her exacts words). Then she preceded to ask how was it determined in the OT who was 'saved'. I said I believed that those who were looking for the promised Messiah was the determining factor (thinking of Heb 11:13). Too bad I didn't say it as you did :) Meredith |

94 | Governmental Authority? | Rom 13:1 | mbooker | 74416
Hi Montag Your question is VERY interesting... and here is the first passage of scripture that came to mind: The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him. And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned? When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman. Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea. And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born. Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. Acts 22:24-29 Could we say Paul was resisting authority in this passage? My answer would be he was resisting injustice (but I could be wrong! :) ). Your question has prompted in me this question: Was it wrong for my foreparents (those slaves that fought, in whatever way, against slavery) to resist the bondage and degregation heaped upon them, ie resist the authority that said they could not be free, could be sold, beaten, separated from their families, were less than human? Was it wrong for those of the civil rights era, to 'fight' for equal rights? Were they sinning when they resisted the authority that told them they could not vote, had to sit in the back of the bus, could only drink out of the 'colored' water fountains, had to attend segregated schools with inferior materials, were not entitled to equal rights/protections under the law? I believe it is good to also consider vv3-5 in conjunction with vv1-2: For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. NASB Did the founding fathers, my foreparents and those of the civil rights era sin against God? I'm not sure either... but hopefully others with be able to shed some more light on the question. Yours in Christ Meredith |

Good morning Searcher When you say 'we' voilated scripture, do you mean the founding fathers, the slaves, or the civil rights advocates? Or all of them? Meredith |

Hi Ed I agree about Paul and maybe I came across wrong. I saw him using the law, ie asserting his rights, to his advantage, thus resisting the injustice that was done. I also agree that Montag makes an interesting argument... I am curious to know the way(s), the founding fathers, the anti slavery groups and the pro civil rights groups SHOULD have gone about gaining those things which they were seeking. If they DID NOT have legal recourses as Paul did, was there another biblical way for them? As I typed that last question, I Tim 2:1-2 comes to mind: I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. oh!! that's a HARD pill to swallow... praying for your oppressor... but it's in there so maybe that was the answer... Yours in Christ Meredith |

97 | May we be in 'perfect harmony ' | 1 Cor 1:10 | mbooker | 57156
Good Morning to all my brothers and sisters in Christ. As I was driving home from work yesterday, I was thinking about this forum and the contention that I preceived is present here. I recalled how my mother would get upset when my sister and I were in contention and bickered with each other(though we have not bickered in some years now :) ). I wonder if our Father gets upset when there is contention among us. This morning, while getting ready for work, I was watching a bible lesson on tv and the minister quoted I Cor 1:10. I was especially struck by 'you be perfectly united in your common understanding and in your opinions and judgements'. I understand that we all have been taught different things (unfortunately) about the Word of God, but it is my prayer that we 'come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ' Eph 4:13. It is also my prayer that each one of us: 'give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God' I Cor 10:32 'give no offence in any thing' II Cor 6:3 'be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ' Phil 1:10. It is also my prayer that when we have opposing understandings of a biblical matter, that each of us endeavor to understand where the other person is coming from, then, with a sincere heart, go Papa in prayer and ask that our eyes of understanding be opened (even if we believe our eyes are already open) that we may 'be perfectly united in our common understanding and in our opinions and judgments'. Now... :) Am I saying we should not address posts that go contrary to what we believe? No, I'm not saying that. The scriptures say: 'Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine 2 Tim 4:2 'These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee' Titus 2:15 (I find it interesting that the above 2 scriptures, while mentioning rebuking also mention exorting) 'This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith' Titus 1:13. And here Paul is talking about the 'many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.' Titus 1:10-11 I would also like to say that I AM NOT accusing anyone of delibrately causing contention, so please do not allow the enemy to give a spirit of offence. My only desire is to exhort. And besides that, maybe my perception is completely wrong. In that case, please disregard this entire post. I will sign off with Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. Abba Father Bless and Keep each one of you... :) Meredith |

98 | How can anyone be saved? | 1 Cor 2:14 | mbooker | 60492
Good Afternoon Brother John Since 'the natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God' how were we(those that are born again) able to receive/believe on Jesus? Aren't we all 'natural' men prior to being born again? Another question: The Amp version refers to the 'the natural, nonspiritual man'. Is it possible to be born again but still be 'nonspiritual' or immature ('HOWEVER, BRETHREN, I could not talk to you as to spiritual (men), but as to nonspiritual (men of the flesh, in whom the carnal nature predominates), as to mere infants (in the new life) in Christ (unable to talk yet!) 1 Cor 3:1)? Though I still don't see this issue the way you do, it has been interesting and challenging reading thru the thread. Abba Father Bless you... Meredith |

Good Afternoon Brother John!! I am smiling as I read this post because I think I see eye-to-eye with you! :) I was under the impression that the Reformed View believed that the gospel was an invitation, not to all, but only to the elect. But from your post, I have been corrected in my impression! :) I too believe that the gospel is open to all but it will only benefit/save those that believe in Christ. I am sooo excited about this moment of unity!! :) Have a blessed day Abba Father bless... Meredith |
